‘We suffered a little bit’ – Pochettino opens up over Tottenham win v West Ham

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that Saturday’s London derby win over West Ham was not all plain sailing.

The North London side raced into a 3-0 lead thanks to a first half double from Harry Kane and a Christian Eriksen strike, but the Hammers came back to reduce the deficit to 3-2, with Javier Hernandez and Cheikhou Kouyate netting for the home side.

Despite a nervy end to the match for Pochettino, his side and the visiting fans, they managed to see out the game and secure the three points.

After the match, the manager said he was happy to have secured the derby win for the supporters, but insists the match took its toll on his side.

Speaking to Spurs TV, available on the club’s official Twitter account, the Argentinian boss said: “I’m so happy for our players and our fans because we know what it means.

“We play not only for three points but for our pride, for the emotion.

“The effort was fantastic. We competed, we played well.

“We suffered a little bit, but so happy with the three points.”

The result continued Spurs’ fine away form this season, with the club having secured victory in all their matches away from their temporary home of Wembley this season.

It also sees Pochettino’s side move up to fourth in the Premier League table on 11 points, behind league leaders Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea.

Their next match sees Spurs travel to Cyprus for their Champions League tie against Apoel Nicosia on Tuesday.
