Summerville and Mbeumo react to Illan Meslier message amid Leeds exit talk

Illan Meslier has sent a message via social media amid the speculation that surrounds the goalkeeper’s Leeds United future.

The Frenchman had once again spent much of this season as first-choice between the posts for Daniel Farke‘s side.

However, Leeds fans were left calling for Meslier to be dropped after a number of errors that cost his side again over the course of the campaign.

In the end, Farke would make that change, with Karl Darlow coming in for the last six games they have played, and he has now helped the Whites to five consecutive wins.

During his time replacing Meslier the Wales international has quickly won over Leeds supporters, and it is since that change that the club have secured automatic promotion back to the Premier League.

Illan Meslier reacts to promotion confirmation

In the wake of his exile from the starting lineup, it is understood that Leeds are open to selling Meslier in the summer transfer window.

Even so, the goalkeeper is seemingly for now still keen to enjoy the club’s success in winning promotion this season.

On Monday (28 April), Farke’s side played their last home game of the season, where they thrashed Bristol City 4-0 before celebrating promotion on the Elland Road pitch.

Taking to Instagram, Meslier has now posted a series of pictures of those celebrations, along with a caption that simply reads: “WE’RE GOING UP”.

In response, West Ham winger Crysenio Summerville – who previously played with Meslier at Leeds – and Brentford attacker Bryan Mbeumo were among those to show their support by liking the post.

Leeds United exit feels inevitable

Football Insider Verdict

It is hard to see how Meslier can still be on the books at Elland Road come the start of next season in the Premier League.

The Frenchman is going to want to continue to play regular football as a first-choice goalkeeper, but his errors in the Championship mean Leeds surely can’t trust him in the Premier League.

Ultimately there will be too much at stake in the battle for them to stay in the division for them to take a gamble on playing the 25-year-old.

Selling him will also bring in funds for reinforcements, so it would be no surprise to see Meslier sold by Leeds this summer.
