Summerville and Rodon react to Georginio Rutter’s Brighton ‘party’ message

Crysencio Summerville and Joe Rodon reacted after ex-Leeds United teammate Georginio Rutter sent a message via social media to Brighton fans following their 2-1 victory over Bournemouth.

The Frenchman grabbed the assist as Danny Welbeck fired home the 75th-minute winner at the Amex Stadium on 25 February, a moment which saw the Seagulls go within three points of the top four spots.

Fabian Hurzeler is only in his first season with Brighton, but with 43 points after 27 games, his side have a real chance of qualifying for Europe as the Premier League battle heats up.

Joao Pedro’s penalty, having rightfully been awarded by Michael Oliver according to Keith Hackett, got the home side off to the best start, though Justin Kluivert pegged them back on the hour mark.

It was Rutter’s impact with 15 minutes remaining which was key as Brighton secured their fourth consecutive victory across all competitions.

Taking to Instagram [25 February], Rutter wrote: “Oleeeeee! Another great party at home,” with a grinning smile and twinkling star emoji.

His former Leeds teammates, Rodon and Summerville liked the post, with Luke Ayling, Mateo Joseph and Aston Villa’s Amadou Onana all joining in.

The 22-year-old is still clearly a much-loved figure by those at Elland Road, having left last summer in a £45million deal to the coastal club.

Fabian Hurzeler aiming for European qualification already

Football Insider verdict

The race for the top four spots in the Premier League is incredibly close, which means any teams from third-place Nottingham Forest to 10th-place Aston Villa could miss out.

Bagging a spot in the Europa League, or even the Europa Conference League, would be a brilliant achievement for the 32-year-old, whose only other experience has come with St Pauli.

Brighton could qualify for Europe this season.

There are several big-hitters still in contention to finish in the European qualification spots, such as Man City, though this has already been tipped to be Pep Guardiola’s final season in England.

It would be a tremendous message to the other teams in the Premier League if Brighton were to beat the likes of Man City, Chelsea and Newcastle to the Champions League.

With 11 games remaining, supporters will not be getting too ahead of themselves, but it is certainly a possibility if the Seagulls’ current form continues.
