Sunderland and Brentford are both looking to bolster their attack in the January transfer window, with one target having received high praise from Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Brentford lost Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa in the summer transfer window, but striker Igor Thiago has scored eight goals this season.

The Bees are currently 12th in their first season under Keith Andrews, whilst Sunderland’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal last time out has them in the Champions League spots.

Sunderland were heavily active in the summer transfer market, but their outstanding campaign thus far means there are few fears of relegation at the Stadium of Light.

Santiago Gimenez a transfer target for Premier League duo

As per  Calciomercato, Sunderland and Brentford have both “inquired” about AC Milan striker Santiago Gimenez.

They report AC Milan signing a new striker is a “close second” behind the clubs top target of recruiting a new centre-back, but any deal could depend on Jimenez leaving.

However, it is also reported that Gimenez “remains confident he can make a name for himself at AC Milan,” and “AC Milan remains his priority for the present and future.”

Gimenez though has yet to score a league goal for the club this season, which may be one potential concern for any interested parties.

For Sunderland though, Wilson Isidor is being watched by scouts, which could lead to a departure in the near future.

What did Zlatan Ibrahimovic say about Gimenez?

As per World Soccer Talk, in February 2025, Zlatan Ibrahimovic talked about AC Milan signing the 24-year-old from Feyenoord.

“We had pursued Gimenez in July, but it wasn’t possible. It wasn’t just up to us; it was also a decision of the club he was playing for (Feyenoord). Now, the opportunity arose, and we made a significant investment,” Ibrahimovic said.

When asked about Gimenez’s strength, Ibrahimovic replied: “He’s strong like Ibra. On another level.”
