Sunderland star Chris Rigg responds to Fulham contract news

Sunderland midfielder Chris Rigg is preparing for life in the Premier League following an excellent campaign in the Championship.

The 18-year-old scored four goals and produced one assist in 42 appearances in the second tier last term, proving both his current ability and his potential.

As a result of his successful Championship exploits, Everton have previously eyed Rigg, who will have an opportunity to prove his worth in the Premier League next term, even if he stays in the North East.

Sunderland have already witnessed high-profile exits this summer, as Jobe Bellingham joined Borussia Dortmund.

Rigg responds as Fulham hand Josh King a new contract

While Rigg is one of Sunderland’s most promising talents, Fulham have handed fellow 18-year-old Josh King a contract extension which is set to keep him at Craven Cottage until 2029.

After agreeing fresh terms with the West Londoners, King revealed via Instagram on Thursday, 17 July: “Delighted to sign a long-term deal at Fulham FC.

“Proud moment for me and my family, thank you to all the fans for the continued support.”

Sunderland starlet Rigg responded to the announcement by commenting with a clapping hands emoji alongside a flame emoji.

Marco Silva is set to give King more minutes next season

Football Insider verdict

The fact that Fulham have given King a long-term deal shows that the Craven Cottage club believe that the teenager has a promising future.

King could feature more regularly next season

However, King has made just 11 senior appearances for Marco Silva’s men and has only been handed one Premier League start by the 48-year-old.

The teenager has shown promise by featuring for England at youth international level and representing the Young Lions in this summer’s Under-19 European Championships.

But the best is still yet to come for the midfielder, whose long-term contract with Fulham suggests that he will enjoy more game time during next season’s Premier League.

Thanks to Silva’s successful stewardship, the West London side have become a solid top-flight outfit, after previously struggling in the Premier League.

King will now hope to have a big say as the Craven Cottage outfit strive to finish in the top half for the first time since they landed 10th spot in 2023.
