Sunderland fans claim Florent Ghisolfi ‘will pull the trigger’ on Regis Le Bris

Sunderland fans have started to question the position of manager Regis Le Bris after another disappointing result on Sunday.

The Black Cats were beaten 3-1 by Fulham at the Stadium of Light, marking a third consecutive Premier League loss.

Le Bris‘ side had enjoyed such a stunning start to the season, but have tailed off in recent months and now sit in the bottom half.

Sunday’s match saw a quick-fire Raul Jimenez double put the Cottagers into a commanding lead after the break.

Sunderland were given a lifeline when Enzo Le Fee scored from the spot, but Alex Iwobi’s goal would wrap up the three points in the closing stages.

Sunderland fans grow frustrated with Regis Le Bris

Sunderland’s time under Le Bris has felt like a fairy tale. The Frenchman led his side to the Championship play-offs last season, where they secured promotion courtesy of Tommy Watson’s stoppage-time strike.

And after a sensational summer transfer window, their start in the Premier League was beyond belief for many fans.

Wins over the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle United were incredible, and a slight belief that a surge for European football would be possible began to spread throughout the Stadium of Light.

The past few months have put an end to those dreams, however. Sunderland have won just two of their last 11 Premier League games, and appear to be struggling with the schedule.

Fans of the Black Cats have even started to question whether Le Bris is the man to take them forward next season.

After Sunday’s defeat, one wrote on social media: “I love Le Bris, but I’m very neutral now on him staying in the summer”.

“Le Bris has done a great job overall,” wrote another. “But look at our results and performances over the last 18/19 games (that’s half a season). It’s relegation form.”

One fan suggested that Florent Ghisolfi, who was appointed director of football in the summer, would “pull the trigger if this carries on”.

Le Bris must finish with a flourish

Decision-makers at the Stadium of Light will retain belief in Le Bris, considering the huge steps the club have taken under his guidance.

However, his team’s second half of the season collapse will be taken into account when a review of the season is undertaken.

Ultimately, it would be incredibly harsh to dismiss Le Bris, with the main objective this season almost certainly to stay in the Premier League.

But if the 50-year-old is keen to keep his job for the years to come, it would certainly boost his credentials to lead his team on a strong end to the season.
