Sunderland, Hull and Watford make moves to sign Oliver Norwood – sources

Sunderland, Hull City and Watford have registered their interest in signing Sheffield United midfielder Oliver Norwood, sources have told Football Insider.

Norwood, 33, is set to leave Bramall Lane when his current contract expires on 1 June, with multiple EFL clubs considering potential deals.

Sources say a number of MLS clubs have also expressed an interest in signing the Manchester United academy product on a free transfer.

The midfielder is a serial promotion winner, having won four promotions so far in his career, twice with the Blades and one each with Fulham and Brighton.

Oliver Norwood wanted by Sunderland, Hull City and Watford

Norwood is the Baldes’ record Premier League appearance holder with 97, having featured a total of 252 times for the club since joining initially on loan in 2018 and making the deal permanent in 2019.

He has also featured 57 times for the Northern Irish national team, having initially represented England at youth level up until the under-19s when he switched allegiances.

He will now depart the club after his contract was allowed to run down with no offer of a new deal.

Sunderland will look to bring an experienced head into their young squad in hopes of fighting to make the playoffs next year after a disappointing season saw them finish 16th.

Watford endured yet another disappointing campaign, finishing 15th, and a deal to sign Norwood would follow the arrival of the experienced Jake Livermore last summer.

Hull, meanwhile, parted ways with Liam Rosenior after failing to make the playoffs and a deal for the 33-year-old would represent a different option to the young ambitious squad they had assembled this season.

Norwood will have an abundance of options to pick from this summer with the three clubs registering their interest now facing competition from abroad.
