Sunderland news: Phillips ‘surprised’ by Kyril Louis-Dreyfus after minutes released
Kevin Phillips is “surprised” by the way Kyril Louis-Dreyfus’ takeover of Sunderland was portrayed.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the Stadium of Light legend suggested fans had the wool pulled over their eyes in regards to Loyis-Dreyfus’ share purchase.
The Athletic revealed on Tuesday (15 February) that Louis-Dreyfus owns just 41 per cent of the Black Cats.

The unpopular Stewart Donald, Juan Sartori, and Charlie Methven own 34 per cent, 20 per cent and 5 per cent respectively.
On Friday (18 February), the club released the minutes of a meeting between club officials and various supporters’ groups.
Chief operating officer Steve Davison tried assured fans Louis-Dreyfus has “full control” despite the revelations this week.
When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the developments at the Stadium of Light, Phillips said: “I’m a bit surprised.
“But I was talking to my mate, who’s a Sunderland fan through and through, and he wasn’t surprised at all.
“The way the takeover was portrayed was very different to what has eventually come out. It is a surprise, the way that they have handled it.
“It is what it is sadly. We all thought it was going to be a fresh start under new ownership but that doesn’t seem to be the case necessarily.
I”‘m surprised, but at the same time I’m not. If that makes sense.”

Sunderland lost 2-1 to MK Dons on Saturday.
The result sees Alex Neil’s side slip out of the play-off spots.
