‘Sunderland set clear Jordan Henderson stance as fresh update emerges’

Jordan Henderson has been linked with a dramatic Sunderland return ever since they were promoted back to the Premier League, and the Black Cats’ stance on a potential transfer has been revealed.

Henderson made his way through the Mackems’ academy to the senior squad, before leaving the Stadium of Light in 2011, and making the switch to Liverpool for a fee of around £20million.

The 34-year-old spent 12 seasons on Merseyside, lifting the Premier League title and Champions League as captain, before moving on at the end of 2023.

However, after Sunderland beat Sheffield United 2-1 in the play-off final to secure their place back in the top-flight, there have been calls for the midfielder to reunite with his boyhood club.

Sunderland’s Henderson stance revealed

As a result of winning promotion to the Premier League, Sunderland are set to boost their revenue by £150million next season, as a result of the TV money in the top flight.

Football Insider exclusively revealed that Regis Le Bris is expected to be backed heavily this summer, as the Black Cats aim to avoid immediate relegation back to the Championship.

However, according to Sky Sports News’ Keith Downie, Sunderland currently have no plans to bring Henderson back to the Stadium of Light, and are not pursuing the midfielder.

Despite this, Downie added that it doesn’t mean a move won’t happen later on in the transfer window, if the circumstances are right.

Bellingham set to leave Sunderland

Football Insider Verdict

Despite not currently holding any interest in Henderson, Le Bris is expected to lose one of his current midfielders in the coming days.

Jobe Bellingham is set to join Borussia Dortmund, after Sunderland accepted a £27.8m bid for the 19-year-old, with £4.2m in add-ons.

It will be the highest transfer fee the Black Cats have ever received, and ironically, it will cost the German club more to sign Jobe than it did to sign his brother Jude back in 2020.

Bellingham made the switch to the Stadium of Light from Birmingham in the summer of 2023, and has made 88 league appearances during his two seasons at the club.

In the 2024/25 campaign, the young talent scored four goals, as he helped Sunderland back to the Premier League for the first time since 2017.
