Sunderland tipped to unleash 'secret weapon' after Johnson update - Phillips
Kevin Phillips has tipped Sunderland manager Lee Johnson to hand Leon Dajaku his debut next week.
The Stadium of Light legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 20-year-old could be a “secret weapon” for the Black Cats this season given that he is not well known to English football.
Sunderland signed the young forward on a season-long loan from Bundesliga side Union Berlin last month.
Dajaku was an unused substitute in yesterday’s 2-2 draw at Fleetwood Town.
As quoted by the Sunderland Echo (September 16th), Lee Johnson suggested fans would get their first sighting of Dajaku next week.
The Wearside club travel to Wigan Athletic in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night before hosting Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs about the imminent debut of Dajaku, Phillips said:
“Dajaku is an unknown quantity and that respect he could be a secret weapon for Lee Johnson this season.
“The good thing is they do not need to rush him because they team are playing well at the moment. The squad is coping so that is why I’m not surprised he didn’t come on yesterday.
“I think they’ll give him another few days of training, perhaps a behind closed doors game and then maybe we will see him against Wigan or Bolton.
“Speaking to supporters, they can’t wait to get a glimpse of this kid. This weekend was a bit too soon for him but it won’t be long.”
