Sunderland to block Chris Rigg move after Man United transfer mission – sources
Sunderland will put a “huge” price tag on Chris Rigg to prevent Man United moving for his signature, sources have told Football Insider.
Rigg, 17, is being closely monitored by a number of Premier League and top European sides after his breakthrough at the Stadium of Light.
Regis Le Bris’ side are currently top of the Championship and pushing for promotion back to the Premier League – with the teenager playing a key role in their excellent form.
Sources say it is “unlikely” he will be on the move in January with the Black Cats hopeful that his long contract and the easy access to first-team football will help them keep him at the club.
Midfield star Rigg has made 15 appearances across all competitions for Sunderland this term, notching three goals.
He picked up September’s EFL Goal of the Month and Young Player of the Month awards off the back of his impressive displays.
Sunderland will demand ‘huge’ Rigg fee
Football Insider revealed on 7 November that Man United scouts have been in attendance at multiple Sunderland games to track Rigg’s progress.
Crystal Palace are also keen and have launched scouting missions of their own this season.
Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham is also attracting interest after his breakthrough at the Stadium of Light.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (12 November) that the Black Cats will slap a “huge price tag” on the 19-year-old, who has recently been called up to England’s Under-21 side, to ward off interest from Borussia Dortmund.
Le Bris’ side sit level on points with Sheffield United at the summit of the Championship and face Millwall after the international break (23 November).
