Sunderland to ‘quickly’ agree new Regis Le Bris deal

Sunderland have been backed to keep manager Regis Le Bris at the Stadium of the Light following their fine season so far.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who sees “no reason” why Le Bris would leave Sunderland.

Crystal Palace and Fulham both have Le Bris on their radar, if either Oliver Glasner or Marco Silva depart their respective clubs.

Le Bris led Sunderland to the Premier League, and the Frenchman now has the Black Cats seventh in the table following their victory over rivals Newcastle.

Regis Le Bris ‘very happy’ at Sunderland

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Sunderland will be “very aware” of the attention Le Bris will be gaining from rival clubs.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Sunderland will want “stability” moving forward as a Premier League club.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think Sunderland, with the board, they’ve been a very forward-thinking board, and I’m sure they’re very aware of the situation, and they want to keep stability.

“I don’t think there’ll be a problem. I think they’ll get it done. I think Le Bris is probably very happy with the backing he’s been given. They certainly did well in the transfer window. So there’s no reason for him to leave.

And I think he’s just starting to make his mark. You know, look, it’s a long season to go yet, and he may well end up mid-table or whatever, but that would be amazing if he did that for the first season

So he should be rewarded. But the key thing I’ve always believed in is stability in a club, and they should be getting stability and I think the board will do that, so I think they’ll get it done pretty quickly.”

Sunderland fans angry at Habib Diarra announcement

Le Bris will now face a tough test with seven stars set to represent their countries at the African Cup of Nations [AFCON].

Sunderland fans are not happy with Habib Diarra‘s call-up for Senegal after only recently returning from injury.

Diarra has not appeared for Sunderland since their 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace in September, and fellow midfielder Noah Sadiki will also be going to AFCON.
