Sunderland work on signing Chelsea star in January – ‘He’s already agreed terms’

Sunderland have enjoyed a strong start to their return to the Premier League and are keen to build on their early success when the transfer window opens.

Regis Le Bris’ side beat Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on 25 October to continue their strong start thanks to a late goal from Chemsdine Talbi.

The Black Cats have now moved up to fourth in the league table after nine games played, with five wins, two draws and just two defeats in that time.

However, they are not planning to rest on their laurels, with plans already being made to further strengthen their squad during the January transfer window.

Sunderland spent around £165million following their promotion from the Championship, but feel there are areas of their squad which could still be improved upon.

Marc Guiu could return to Sunderland from Chelsea in January

Marc Guiu joined Sunderland on loan during the summer, but the striker was quickly recalled by Chelsea following Nicolas Jackson’s move to Bayern Munich.

However, that has not killed the Black Cats’ interest, and they are plotting a move to bring him back to the Stadium of Light in the January transfer window.

That is according to former Sunderland and Man United chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected at his former clubs, as he exclusively told Football Insider that negotiations should be straightforward after the deal was agreed in the summer.

The thing is with Chelsea, there are so many players on their books,” he told Football Insider.

“It gives the manager a lot of options, which is fine, but it means a lot of the players don’t get a look in, because he’s got his starting XI pretty much nailed down.

“Even the substitutes, there are preferred ones, and I don’t think Guiu is one with everybody fit.

“As a young player, you have to be playing games. That’s the most important thing. So if you get the opportunity to go and play somewhere, you have to take it.

“A move back to Sunderland would make a lot of sense, of course, because he’s already agreed terms when he made that move in the summer.

“I’m sure they will also been keen to get it done, because there’s a reason they wanted him before.

Guiu has made seven appearances for Chelsea so far this season, but just three of those have come from the start, while Liam Delap’s return from injury is likely to impact his minutes.

Sunderland fear losing Wilson Isidor

Brown told Football Insider on 27 October that scouts have been watching Wilson Isidor this season, with a number of top clubs keeping tabs on his progress.

However, the Black Cats are fearful of losing their first-choice striker in the January transfer window and have no plans to let him leave in the near future.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 26 September that Aston Villa are closely monitoring Isidor following his tremendous start to the season.

However, Unai Emery’s side are not the only ones keeping a close eye on the striker’s progress, with scouts from a number of top clubs tracking him.
