Sunderland’s Regis Le Bris plots January signing blizzard – sources

Regis Le Bris has let it be known to Sunderland he wants to be backed heavily in the January transfer window if his side are still in promotion contention, sources have told Football Insider.

The Black Cats currently sit top of the Championship ahead of heavy hitters like Leeds, Sheffield United and Burnley.

Le Bris and Sunderland have made a great start and are the second-tier’s surprise package after nine games of the new season.

Sources say the Frenchman is keen to be backed to give his side the best chance of securing automatic promotion if they are still in contention come January.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (14 October) that Jordan Henderson is open to re-joining Sunderland should a deal be agreed with Ajax.

Le Bris wants Sunderland backing to help promotion push

Sources say the midfielder would welcome a return to his boyhood club despite the drop in level it would represent, as he believes he could play a crucial role in their promotion push.

Sunderland made 10 signings in the summer window but paid transfer fees for just two of those new arrivals.

Le Bris’ side are next in action against Hull City on Sunday (20 October) before facing relegated Luton Town next week (23 October).

The Black Cats were beaten play-off semi-finalists in the 2022-23 campaign before finishing 16th last term.
