Danny Mills has hailed Steve Bruce’s ability in the transfer market after Jeff Hendrick’s impressive impressive Newcastle United debut.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Manchester City right back delivered his verdict after Hendrick shone in the Magpies’ 2-0 away win over West Ham.
The 28-year-old registered a goal and an assist in East London as Newcastle began their campaign with a winning start.
The Republic of Ireland international joined Newcastle last month on a free, signing a four-year-deal after leaving Burnley after his contract expired.
Steve Bruce has subsequently added Bournemouth pair Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser, as well as Norwich left back Jamal Lewis.
Mills told Football Insider: “Steve Bruce is a very, very good manager and if he’s given the money his recruitment will be very, very good. He knows the sorts of players who will fit into his side so what he’s done is superb.
“He’s gone ‘OK, what fits my team? What is going to work for me?’ and that’s what he has done.
“He’s picked players that are important in the way that he play and the things that they do and that’s all credit to Steve Bruce.”
Speaking after the game, Hendrick told NUFCTV: “I’m happy to get the win in the first game with the lads, and get a goal. It’s a brilliant feeling. Getting three points on the first day of the season is massive and it’s something we can build on.”
The goal was his 10th in 123 Premier League appearances, he has also registered six assists in the top flight.
