Supercomputer drops new prediction for Champions League qualification after Man United and Liverpool wins

Man United are still predicted to finish fifth in the Premier League despite their victory over Everton on Monday.

The Red Devils went three points clear of fifth after Benjamin Sesko fired in the winner at the Hill Dickinson Stadium to beat the Toffees 1-0.

However, according to Opta on 23 February, Liverpool are still predicted to pip Man United to a spot in the top four.

The Reds are predicted to finish on 64.41 points, whereas the Red Devils are expected to reach 64.08 points.

Man United still expected to reach Champions League

Despite the predicted fifth-place finish, Man United are likely to still get Champions League.

England is set to be awarded a fifth qualification spot in the competition thanks to their excellent performance in Europe this season.

As a result, fifth should be enough to reach the Champions League, something the club are on track to achieve.

Arsenal and Man City are also highly likely to join them alongside Aston Villa.

Chelsea are the only other side that could realistically get into the top five at the end of the season, and their odds of qualifying for the Champions League are currently 20.43 per cent.

Brentford also still have a slim chance of getting into the competition, with Opta viewing their chances at 2.10 per cent in what has been a sensational campaign so far for Keith Andrews’ side.

What is the current coefficient this season?

As it stands, England are top of the current UEFA coefficient rankings comfortably this season.

Overall, the nation is averaging 21.513 points, which will only get higher with all nine English sides still in Europe.

Germany are second on the rankings and are currently on track to be the other country to receive the other Champions League spot.

The Germans are averaging 17.071 points, putting them narrowly above Portugal in third, who have 16.600 points.

However, with plenty of football still to be played in Europe, it remains to be seen who is able to secure the top two by the end of the season.

Nevertheless, it looks all but certain that England will claim one of these spots, with Man United on track to be the beneficiary on this new system.
