Supercomputer makes updated Championship relegation prediction after West Brom and Leicester latest

Opta believe that Leicester City are edging closer to survival ahead of West Brom after the latest round of Championship fixtures.

Leicester and West Brom are experiencing their worst respective campaigns in years as they each fight to stay in the Championship and avoid a shock drop into the third tier.

The Foxes recently hired Gary Rowett as their new manager until the end of the season, and he guided them to a 2-2 draw at Stoke City on Saturday in his first game in charge.

Harry Winks thought he had delivered Leicester their first league win since 5 January when he struck in the 76th minute, but they were undone by an 89th-minute Ben Wilmot goal to share the spoils.

West Brom, meanwhile, predictably lost at home to table-toppers Coventry, as the race to stay up took another twist with 13 games left to play.

West Brom predicted to be relegated over Leicester by Opta

The Baggies are weighing up whether to sack manager Eric Ramsay in an attempt to save their season, as he has now failed to win any of his first eight games since being appointed on 11 January.

First-half strikes from Ephron Mason-Clark and Jack Rudoni at the Hawthorns on Saturday kept West Brom in 21st, as 22nd-placed Leicester moved one point behind them after their draw at Stoke.

With a tight battle set ensue over the next 10 weeks, Opta are predicting that the Baggies will be the club to drop into League One for next term.

They have been given an expected points total of 49.52, with a 49.08 per cent chance of being relegated from the Championship, alongside both Oxford and Sheffield Wednesday.

Leicester, meanwhile, are now expected to pick up 50.34 points, and they have a 36.24 per cent chance of going down, with Blackburn, Charlton and Portsmouth all also avoiding the drop above them.

Which sides are predicted to finish in the Championship playoff places?

The Championship promotion race involves a good few more sides than the relegation battle, with both automatic places and playoff places set to be in the balance right up until the end of the campaign.

Coventry and Middlesbrough currently occupy the top two spots, and Opta believes that they will both remain there come the end of the season, with the former given a 71.26 per cent chance of winning the title.

There are just three points between sixth-placed Wrexham and 10th-placed Preston as it stands, but Phil Parkinson’s side are now being backed to make the playoffs, with a 39.22 per cent chance.

Birmingham are predicted to finish seventh, with a 23.08 per cent chance of making the top six, while the other playoff places are set to be taken up by Ipswich, Millwall and Hull.
