Supercomputer updates Premier League title prediction after Arsenal and Man City’s weekend results

Arsenal retain the backing of the supercomputer in their quest for the Premier League title despite a damaging weekend.

The Gunners were beaten 2-1 by Bournemouth on Saturday, with Eli Junior Kroupi and Alex Scott scoring to cancel out Viktor Gyokeres’ penalty and inflict a massive blow at the Emirates Stadium.

That defeat was followed by another significant result when Manchester City beat Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge, with Nico O’Reilly, Marc Guehi and Jeremy Doku scoring.

The events of the weekend have seen the Citizens close the gap to just six points with a game in hand, with the two sides set to meet this week.

Arsenal’s form has taken a serious turn for the worse in recent weeks, and their hopes of ending a 22-year wait for the Premier League title appear to be hanging on for dear life.

Supercomputer backs Arsenal to deny pressure

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider last week that Arsenal are facing unique pressure in their aims of winning the Premier League.

The Gunners have been contenders for the title for four years now, but have come up short in every season.

Their best effort came in the 2023-24 season, when Mikel Arteta’s side won 16 of their last 18 games but were denied the title by just two points.

This season has felt different, with Arsenal appearing to have a consistency to them that the other contenders could not match.

But in the last few months, all confidence has seemed to drain from the Premier League leaders.

Disappointing results have been frequent, and the football has been poor, but Arsenal were at least getting over the line. Losses in the Carabao Cup final, the FA Cup quarter-final and on Saturday have changed that.

Arsenal now find themselves under significant pressure ahead of Sunday’s trip to Man City, which could see the title fall into Pep Guardiola’s hands once again.

Opta‘s supercomputer has retained an 86.98 per cent confidence that Arteta’s side will get the job done, but that number is falling rapidly.

Arsenal face project-defining Man City clash

Should Arsenal miss out on both the Premier League and the Champions League again this season, many fans will lose faith in both Arteta and his project once and for all.

And it would be hard to blame them. Fans have been handed reasons to be excited in each of their last four seasons, only for eventual disappointment.

Sunday’s clash at the Etihad Stadium will be seen as a title decider, and rightfully so – the winner will likely feed off the confidence boost to win their final games.

Should it be lost, the future will start to look increasingly unclear for Arteta and his project at Arsenal.
