‘Superstar’ – Andre Onana, Ally McCoist react to Rio Ferdinand’s Mbeumo message

Rio Ferdinand’s new message about the latest arrival at Man United, Bryan Mbeumo, caught the attention of many on social media.

The 25-year-old signs on a £71million deal from Brentford this summer [Sky Sports], with the Red Devils winning the race against Newcastle United and Tottenham for the winger’s signature.

With 20 goals and eight assists in 42 appearances last season, a battle was always going to emerge, and with Thomas Frank leaving for Tottenham, the Bees’ squad continues to fall apart.

United, on the other hand, are going from strength to strength under Ruben Amorim this summer, with Mbeumo joined by Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Time remains for Man United to seal exits for Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia, Antony, and Jadon Sancho, shortly after Marcus Rashford’s temporary move to La Liga giants Barcelona.

Rio Ferdinand welcomes Bryan Mbeumo to Man United

Taking to Instagram (29 July), Ferdinand wrote: “He’s finally here, Bryan Mbeumo. Pleasure to sit down with Man United’s new superstar for his first interview!!! Respect,” with a fistbump emoji.

Both Andre Onana and Ally McCoist liked the United legend’s post, who appeared incredibly excited to welcome the former Brentford man to Old Trafford this summer.

Ruben Amorim to turn the tide at Old Trafford

Football Insider verdict

Amorim has already been tipped to be the next manager sacked in the Premier League next season, having come under heavy fire from supporters during his first few months in charge.

With a full summer transfer window under his belt, it will be much fairer to judge his work at Old Trafford next term, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be keeping a keen eye on results.

The Red Devils finished 15th in the Premier League table last season, a far cry from what is expected from the club, and then matters were made worse with a Europa League final defeat to Tottenham.

New transfers will get supporters massively excited for the new campaign, even if only two big names have been added so far, but a lot of deadweight needs to be removed as well.

The famous “bomb squad” is taking up huge wages at the Theatre of Dreams, with the likes of Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, Rasmus Hojlund, and Joshua Zirkzee all also linked with exits.

Amorim has a lot of work on his hands over the coming months, especially if he wants to survive in England, but he needs the full support of fans and the boardroom if that is to happen.
