‘Sverre Nypan not expected to be at Man City next term after Arsenal and Aston Villa race’
Sverre Nypan is not set to be a part of Pep Guardiola’s squad next season despite Man City apparently beating rivals to the Rosenborg star.
City endured a tough campaign by their lofty standards last time out as they finished third in the Premier League behind Liverpool and Arsenal following four consecutive title-winning seasons.
They are now preparing for the chance to lift silverware at the Club World Cup next month, with Norwegian powerhouse Erling Haaland likely to be among the competition’s top scorers.
The Citizens are looking to acquire another Norwegian talent this summer, with 18-year-old talent Nypan on their radar following a rapid rise at boyhood club Rosenborg over the last few years.
Nypan was chased by City and domestic rivals Arsenal in the recent January window, as revealed by Football Insider, but it is Guardiola’s side who look to be edging closer to securing his services this summer.

Sverre Nypan to be loaned out once he joins Man City this summer
The Athletic have reported that Man City are now closing in on a move for box-to-box midfielder Nypan, pending agreement on personal terms, after the likes of Arsenal, Aston Villa and Girona were believed to be interested in his signature.
Arsenal were unable to convince him to move last summer after hosting the youngster, while a visit from Villa representatives in the winter looks to have proven unsuccessful.
His move is set to represent a record transfer fee for a player leaving the Eliteserien, but the 18-year-old is due to leave City again in a quick turnaround, as he is “expected to go out on a season-long loan” this summer, ahead of the new campaign.
Nypan will become Guardiola’s fifth signing of the summer if his move is confirmed soon, with Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli and Rayan Cherki joining recently, while Tijjani Reijnders made the move from AC Milan on Wednesday (11 June).
Guardiola is planning well for the future by signing Nypan
Football Insider verdict
City’s struggles over the last term were on show for all to see, as their season fell apart with an injury to key man Rodri and they soon became embroiled in a battle for the top five rather than a league title.
Guardiola’s squad rebuild has been somewhat of a disappointment so far, but with Kevin De Bruyne now leaving to join Napoli at the end of his contract, Kyle Walker due to depart this summer and Jack Grealish wanting to join Everton, the club must get their business right this summer if they want to succeed in 2025/26.
Nypan is unlikely to be a part of their immediate plans if he joins in the coming weeks or months, but signing him is a clear indication of City wanting to avoid a similar situation to that of the last 12 months, due to his potential to be a world star after his emergence at Rosenborg.

He has already featured 70 times for the Norwegian side at senior level, despite being just 18-years-old, so the sky seems like the limit for his talents, especially at a club with the facilities and coaching like the Citizens, and they will be pleased that they look to have got his signature over line amid interest from other top teams.
