Swansea City and Huddersfield Town plotting to sign David Harrington – sources

Swansea City and Huddersfield Town are keeping close tabs on Fleetwood Town goalkeeper David Harrington, sources have told Football Insider.

Harrington, 24, is earning rave reviews for Fleetwood after keeping six clean sheets in 13 League Two appearances so far this season.

He was recently called up to the Wales squad for their Nations League clashes against Turkey and Iceland after switching allegiances from the Republic of Ireland.

The shot-stopper had previously been a part of the Ireland Under-21s set-up and earned his first call-up to the senior side for friendlies against Hungary and Portugal last June.

Now, after establishing himself as a crucial player for Fleetwood in the fourth tier of English football, he is eyeing a potential step up the divisions to help establish himself on the international stage.

The Fishermen are keen to keep hold of Harrington, who joined the club from Cork City in January 2023, but are bracing themselves for interest from higher up the football pyramid.

Huddersfield are pushing for promotion back to the Championship after suffering relegation last time out, but are currently five points off of the automatic promotion places.

They are expected to strengthen their squad in January, and are looking for an option to provide competition for Jacob Chapman between the sticks.

Meanwhile, Swansea are also keeping a close eye on the Wales international’s progress following his recent international switch.

The Championship outfit want to being in a long-term successor to Lawrence Vigouroux, who has started all 17 of their league fixtures this term.

However, the opportunity to bring in a 24-year-old goalkeeper who could potentially become the first-choice both for Swansea and Wales in the future has put them on alert.

Despite the growing interest, though, Fleetwood are extremely reluctant to see their star man leave mid-way through the season, with the team on course to finish in a mid-table position.
