Sources: Cheltenham agree to sign Swansea City forward Joseph

Swansea City striker Kyle Joseph has agreed to join Cheltenham Town on loan, Football Insider understands.

The 19-year-old only joined the Swans earlier this summer after leaving Wigan Athletic for a compensation fee when his contract expired.

A Swansea source told Football Insider that Cheltenham have fended off competition from multiple EFL rivals to agree a season-long loan deal for Joseph.

Football Insider first broke news yesterday that Cheltenham had made a last-gasp move to land the Scotland Under-21 attacker.

Swansea fended off interest from Celtic and Newcastle United to sign Joseph from Wigan, who lost a slew of players after falling into financial trouble.

The London-born forward signed a four-year deal when he joined in June.

Joseph is set to move to League Two Cheltenham after struggling for game time in the opening throes of the 2021-22 campaign.

His only appearances of the season so far have come in the League Cup, while he has been named on the bench four times in the Championship.

Joseph scored five times in 18 League One appearances for the Wigan last term, before suffering a back injury that sidelined him for four months.

His first-team opportunities in Wales may be limited because of new boss Russell Martin’s tactical preferences.

Martin favours a one-striker system, and Swansea already have a number of attacking options on the books.

Centre-forward Joe Piroe signed from PSV Eindhoven for a seven-figure fee earlier in the window.

And, as revealed by this site earlier today, it looks as though the Swans are set to retain the services of Jamal Lowe.

Blackburn Rovers have pulled the plug on their pursuit of the striker-cum-winger after being priced out of a move.
