Alan Hutton has suggested Steven Gerrard will hold one-to-one talks with Alfredo Morelos before deciding whether to let him leave Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Gers defender and boyhood fan at Ibrox believes the Gers boss needs to know if the 24-year-old is fully committed to the cause before October’s transfer deadline.
The Scottish Sun report that Lille are set to make a final take-it-or-leave-it bid of £18million after their summer-long pursuit of the Colombian.
Hutton admits that the eight-figure fee will be very tempting for Rangers and insists that if Morelos tells Gerrard he does want to leave then the club should cash in.
Hutton told Football Insider: “£18million is a lot of money and I’m just sitting here thinking if they do let him go, are they going to have to bring somebody in or are they happy with the people they’ve already got.
“They’ll have to weigh up that option and really for me, I would sit him down and see where his head’s at. I’ve said before, I think he could be the difference between winning the league and not winning the league with his goals, he scores that many.
“If he stays, perfect. If he wants to leave, cash in, let him go, take the £18million and move on and reinvest the money into the squad.”
Morelos has scored 82 goals in 145 appearances for the Gers so far, although he has not netted consistently in 2020.
He has hit the back of the net five times in seven games this season, including braces against Lincoln Red Imps and St Mirren, after just one strike during the second half of the 2019/20 campaign.
