Takefusa Kubo’s stance on joining Tottenham in January revealed

Takefusa Kubo could be intrigued by a move to the Premier League to Tottenham after Real Sociedad’s poor start to the season.

With Tottenham wanting to sign a striker and a winger in January, the Japan international would certainly tick that box.

It isn’t the first time the player has been linked with a move to the English top-flight with Everton previously interested in signing Kubo last summer.

Given Real Sociedad sit in 14th in La Liga and without European football, the 24-year-old could be tempted by the prospect of playing in the Champions League with Spurs.

Kubo ‘would tick a lot of boxes’ for Tottenham as Premier League switch beckons

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the Japanese winger could be seriously considering the possibility of working under Thomas Frank.

Sources told Football Insider that Tottenham would need to pay £52million to sign Kubo by activating his release clause.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “The player himself could be interested in moving away because it’s not been the best of seasons for Real Sociedad in La Liga this year and they have struggled more than they normally do.

“They’re normally more competitive than they have been so far this season as well and the player himself could be finally interested in making that move to the Premier League.

“I think with the price tag involved, that £52m, it could be an expensive deal to do in January.

“He’s a top player, Kubo, capable of playing on both flanks. He would definitely add something to that Tottenham attack as well. He can play left side or right side and he definitely has a goal in him as well.

“So, he would tick a lot of boxes for Tottenham for what they’re looking in January, but I just think the price tag could make any deal prohibitive.”

Tottenham January striker priority suffers setback as Ivan Toney deal looks unlikely

With the Lilywhites pushing to secure Kubo as their winger signing of choice, Frank will also be keen to bolster up front as well.

However, sources told Football Insider that Ivan Toney’s huge wages will likely halt any further discussions with Tottenham.

A potential reunion was on the cards between the Dane and the Englishman, yet Spurs will struggle to fork out the eye-watering amounts to pay his lucrative wages at Al-Ahli.

Even with his chances of heading to the World Cup slipping further and further away due to playing in Saudi Arabia, it appears Toney is happy where he is and isn’t thinking of a Premier League return right now.
