Tam McManus backs Celtic move for top flight midfield maestro in Twitter spat

BBC pundit Tam McManus has backed a Celtic move for Hibernian midfielder John McGinn after former Hoops forward Simon Donnelly suggested a transfer of the highly-rated ace to Celtic Park as a successor for Scott Brown in The Herald.

The 23-year-old was linked with a move to the Scottish Premiership champions back in December according to the Scottish Sun and has impressed this season, particularly against the Old Firm sides.

However, after one Celtic supporter questioned the potential of the Scotland international on Twitter, comparing him to Olivier Ntcham by saying that McGinn ‘is as good as he will ever be,’ McManus was quick to respond and said:

“McGinn is two years older ffs at 23 and he’s not going to get any better? Honestly some folk on here are either utterly clueless or only see what they want to see through (insert coloured spectacles) This fella probably both to be fair.”

Football Insider verdict:

There seems to be a growing consensus that McGinn is destined to join Celtic in the next transfer window but McManus is right – how can a player who is just 23-year-old have already reached his peak? The simple answer is he has not and the Scotland international can only improve, whether that is at Celtic or further afield. His intelligent play against both Rangers and the Bhoys this season have also proved he has what it takes to be a star at a higher level. For a supporter to say that the Hibbs playmaker is as good as he will ever be, smacks of flippancy, and McManus was right to put them back in place.
