Tam McManus has destroyed Rangers ace Joe Garner for his woeful performance during the 2-0 defeat against Celtic on Sunday afternoon at Hampden Park.
Former Hibernian striker McManus stated that Garner will be “punted straight down to League One in the summer”.
The 29-year-old started the match but was taken off at half-time by manager Pedro Caixinha after a dominant display from the Hoops as they kept their treble hopes alive.
Garner was a £1.8million summer signing from English Championship outfit Preston North End, with former Gers boss Mark Warburton bringing in the experienced man to Ibrox.
After another poor showing, McManus issued this critical assessment of Garner, who has failed to live up to expectations this season.
“He’s poor, what a massive waste of dough for Rangers,” McManus wrote on his personal Twitter account. “100% punted down to League One in the summer. Nowhere near good enough for Rangers.”
Over the course of the season, Garner has played 33 games in all competitions, scoring eight goals added with his two assists.
Worryingly for Garner, he has picked up more yellow cards (10) this term than he has scored goals.
Nonetheless, it was the fourth time during this campaign that Brendan Rodgers has guided his team to a win over their rivals.
It also keeps Rodgers’ treble hopes alive as they will play Aberdeen in the final after the Dons saw off Neil Lennon’s Hibernian on Saturday afternoon.
If given the chance to start, Garner will be hoping to put things right when the duo meet again at Ibrox next Saturday for a Scottish Premiership clash.
