Teenage wonderkid: I want to sign for Leeds and win Premier League

By Will Butcher

Erling Haaland wants to move to Leeds in order to fulfil his dream of winning the Premier League with the Yorkshire giants.

Haaland, 16, is the son of former Leeds ace Alf-Inge Haaland, and currently plays for Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s Norwegian giants Molde after signing a new three-year deal.

Speaking to Norwegian outlet Aftenposten, Haaland revealed that he is keen to join Leeds despite his father also playing for Manchester City and Nottingham Forest.

“I want to be the best possible,” Haaland said. “The dream is to win the Premier League with Leeds.

“In addition, the goal is to become a better player than my dad was. I hope to get more caps than he did.”

The striker has made a positive start in his attempts to surpass his father’s tally of 34 Norway caps, after making 17 appearances for Norway’s Under-16 side after his debut in January 2016.

Now, Haaland could be looking to get on the radar of Garry Monk despite signing a new deal with Molde, which saw German giants Hoffenheim and Danish outfit FC Copenhagen miss out.

Haaland’s father played for Leeds for three years between 1997 and 2000 after moving from Nottingham Forest for a fee of £1.6million.

The defender is best remembered for his on-field altercations with former Manchester United captain Roy Keane.

Haaland criticised Keane for trying to foul the Norwegian in 1997, which saw the Irishman injure his knee and force him onto the sidelines for almost a year. Fast forward four years, and Keane exacted his revenge with an awful challenge that saw him receive a red card.

Football Insider verdict:

Showing plenty of promise that has caught the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs, Haaland is certainly a player who has bags of potential and could become huge. His desire and determination to earn a move to his father’s former side and win the Premier League with the Yorkshire giants is something that Leeds should not pass up. With that drive and motivation in looking to be a success with the former Champions League side, Garry Monk should look to orchestrate a move that would see the teenager sign for Leeds in the near future. With his whole career ahead of him, Haaland can be anything he wants to be – even a Premier League winner with Leeds.
