‘Tell that to the Newcastle fans’ – Shay Given reacts to Alexander Isak claim on Match of the Day
Yoane Wissa has received further plaudits after his strong display in Newcastle United’s win over Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Newcastle beat Palace 2-0 at St James’ Park, with goals from Bruno Guimaraes and Malick Thiaw ultimately providing the difference.
The Magpies look to have found a chance to put together a good run of form, with their summer signing’s return appearing to have provided a big boost.
Wissa signed for Newcastle in the summer, but was injured instantly following his £55million move from Brentford.
After finally returning, Wissa scored his first Newcastle goal against Fulham in the Carabao Cup, and grabbed his first in the league against Burnley last week.

Yoane Wissa compared to unpopular ex-Newcastle United figure
Newcastle fans have not forgiven Alexander Isak yet, following the summer’s events that surrounded his £125m move to Liverpool.
The striker refused to train for the Magpies, claiming that he had been promised a move away when he signed a new contract.
Newcastle rebuked his claim but ultimately agreed to his exit on transfer deadline day after they had completed the signings of Wissa and Nick Woltemade.
Isak‘s move has not yet panned out the way he would have seen it, with Liverpool struggling for form and the forward himself having scored just three goals across all competitions.
The Swede is now set to spend a further period on the injury table after suffering a fractured leg in a game against Tottenham.
“Back-to-back wins for Newcastle United and that coincides with two Premier League starts for Yoane Wissa,” Gabby Logan said on BBC Match of the Day on Sunday.
“He offers something of an Isak-esque quality to Newcastle,” she continued, to which Shay Given joked: “Tell that to the Newcastle fans, the Isak-lite comparison, but yeah I agree totally Gabby.”
What Wissa said after returning for Newcastle
The length of Wissa’s absence after arriving was so extreme that many Newcastle fans feared that £55m had been flushed down the drain.
But, since returning, the striker has shown that he still has everything to offer Eddie Howe‘s team.
The DR Congo international does not stop running, and is an incredible option for Newcastle to have at their disposal.

Speaking after his return from injury, he said: “My target was always just to come back first. After that I will know what target I will have.
“For now, the most important thing is to win every single game, and that’s why I am here.”
The Magpies have been made to wait to see both Wissa and Woltemade deployed up front together, but it is sure to be a staggering sight when it does happen.
