‘Terrific signings’ – Joe Cole delivers glowing verdict on West Ham transfers
By Derek Smithson
Joe Cole has hailed West Ham for their activity in the transfer market this summer.
The Hammers have been highly active in the window so far and have made some considerable improvement to his squad.
They have already secured a loan deal for England goalkeeper Joe Hart from Manchester City, while also completing a deal for attacker Marko Arnautovic from Stoke.
Slaven Bilic’s side have revealed that they have agreed terms for striker Javier Hernandez and he will be the latest big-name player to make the move to the London Stadium once he passes a medical.
Ex-West Ham player Cole believes that his former side have made some fantastic signings in the transfer window and states they are heading in the right direction.
“ I think they are terrific signings,” Cole told talkSPORT. “When Javier Hernandez left Manchester United, West Ham should probably have gone in for him then.
“He’s a proven goalscorer wherever he’s gone and Marko Arnautovic is a talent who the West Ham fans will enjoy watching. They’re both great signings. To get Joe Hart, the England goalkeeper, as well, that shows where the club is at the moment.
“I think West Ham, especially after moving into the new stadium, they’re on the cusp of moving onto that next level as a club. Credit to the owners and the management, and how the club has been run.”
West Ham will be looking to break into the top seven of the Premier League in the upcoming season and have shown real intent with their signings so far.
Goalkeeper Hart will be aiming to cement regular first-team action during his loan spell with the club and he is joined by former teammate Pablo Zabaleta in the squad.
Meanwhile, Arnautovic has sealed a move to the Hammers and he will be looking to provide a goalscoring threat in the wide areas.
The Austria international made 145 appearances during his time with Stoke and scored 26 goals in return.
In other West Ham transfer news, they are on the verge of signing a 25-year-old international.
