TFG at risk of Carlos Alcaraz repeat as Everton enter race for Palmeiras star Jose Lopez
The Friedkin Group clearly haven’t learned their lessons from the failed signing of Carlos Alcaraz as Everton plan for the summer window.
Arriving initially on a six-month loan from Flamengo in February 2026, the 23-year-old made enough appearances to trigger a permanent move, but it has been all downhill since.
He has just one goal and one assist in 18 appearances, not appearing since mid-February due to a frustrating injury, with supporters questioning the amount of money spent on his signature.
Everton’s transfer tactics could change massively under the new owners, but the latest links to the Hill Dickinson Stadium would suggest that the Toffees are about to make another mistake.

Alcaraz is the perfect example of Premier League clubs taking a chance on a talent from South America, failing to make it in England, but the transfer team taking a chance on him either way.
The 23-year-old had his best days back in Argentina as a teenager, before signing for Flamengo in the summer of 2024, and despite a lack of goal contributions, he was a fan favourite.
Since moving to Merseyside, the playmaker has really struggled to find his footing, and supporters will only be concerned that the same will happen again if they move for Palmeiras’ Jose Lopez.
| Jose Lopez | Games | Goals | Assists |
| 2026 | 22 | 9 | 7 |
| 2025 | 64 | 25 | 6 |
| 2024 | 61 | 22 | 6 |
| 2023 | 40 | 8 | 0 |
| 2022 | 14 | 2 | 0 |
The 25-year-old, also known as Flaco Lopez, has only ever played in Argentina and Brazil, with the striker currently boasting nine goals and seven assists in 22 appearances in 2026.
TFG are taking a serious risk with Jose Lopez
According to Brazilian outlet Bola VIP, the Toffees have joined Brentford in the race for the Argentina international, who has racked up 66 goals and 19 assists in 201 appearances.
It is believed that Everton still have financial concerns despite TFG’s takeover, which could provide clarity over the underwhelming transfer link, but there are so many better targets than Lopez.
With Beto and Thierno Barry both failing to hit the mark expected of them, David Moyes needs a striker who is already proven in England’s top flight.
Splashing money on a South American talent would be a huge risk, especially when the Toffees are pushing for European qualification, and the player has only featured in Argentina and Brazil.
Learn from the mistake of spending over £12million on Alcaraz.
