'That'll be a Big loss' - Exclusive: Brown reacts to latest Leeds star injury

Michael Brown admits that losing Liam Cooper is a “big blow” for Leeds United but has tipped Gaetano Berardi to fill the void if he is missing against Blackburn.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds and Tottenham midfielder revealed he feared the worst when the centre-back was forced off with a blow to the back against Luton.

The 28-year-old lasted just 12 minutes on Tuesday evening, with replacement Berardi subbed off himself at half time.

However, Brown believes that the Swiss utility man will be back into the starting XI if Cooper is still suffering the effects of the knock for Saturday’s game against Blackburn.

Asked about Berardi potentially replacing Cooper, Brown told Football Insider: “The games are coming thick and fast, he’s played a large number of games, it’s not as if he’s not going to slot in there nicely.

“That’ll be a big loss if they lose Cooper, he’s their leader, he’s their captain, you know what he brings so that will be a bit of concern, you fear the worst, they go down 1-0 but they created opportunities and managed to get back in it.”

Cooper has played 33 times in the Championship for Leeds this season and has started every match since December 21.

The Whites sit top of the table by a single point ahead of Saturday’s visit to Ewood Park, with second-placed West Brom beating Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday.

In other Leeds United news, Noel Whelan is bouncing as he claims the club are on the verge of a “brilliant signing” who would be an “absolute steal”.
