‘The Croatian Allardyce’ – Tottenham fans all say the same about relegation ahead of Igor Tudor appointment
Tottenham supporters are ready for Igor Tudor to lead their players away from the Premier League relegation zone.
It is understood that the former Juventus boss, who has been out of a job since October, is set for a first-ever spell in England, having won 42 per cent of his games with the Old Lady.
Currently, Tottenham are just five points above the relegation zone, dropping to 16th after losing to Newcastle United on Tuesday, 10 February, leading to Thomas Frank’s demise.
With Arsenal up next in the North London derby, there is a very real fear that the Lilywhites could be playing Championship football next season, only for a new manager twist to emerge.
Igor Tudor is already being seen as a saviour at Tottenham
Being viewed as a “Croatian [Sam] Allardyce,” the hope is that Tudor can recreate some of his previous managerial spells and lead Spurs away from the bottom three teams.
Wolves, Burnley and West Ham are the three teams currently taking up the relegation spots, but within a few weeks, Tottenham could easily slip into the red zone with just a few games remaining.
One supporter has even urged fellow supporters, “don’t be negative” about the incoming head coach, who has been hired until the end of the 2025-26 campaign.
- @Ayhd126H: “Don’t be negative about Tudor. He’s exactly what this group of players need: someone who demands respect and won’t take **** from anyone. He is extremely passionate, and I think he would do a half-decent job for us.”
- @EashN17: “Really don’t mind Tudor, a coach with UCL experience and relegation battle experience (saved Udinese), much better than hiring some semi-pro manager.”
- @THFCComps: “Tudor is a perfectly fine appointment in our situation. Any available manager is likely to have a bad ending at their previous club. Tudor isn’t hated by Juve fans; he’s quite well respected. Came in at a difficult time, and turned them around in his first year.”
Which players could benefit from Tudor’s arrival?
Tudor likes to use a back-three formation, which could give more opportunities to Radu Dragusin to gain more minutes on the pitch, while Micky van de Ven could have more time in possession to pick a pass.
Xavi Simons has had a positive start to life in North London, but with the former Juventus boss happy to use two attacking midfielders, the Dutchman could be given more license to roam in the final third.
Not everything has clicked for the young star since his big-money move from RB Leipzig, and this could be the break that Simons needs to finally show what he is capable of.
And just lastly, Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski will be itching to get back to the pitch, given that they have previously worked with Tudor during his time as assistant coach at the Allianz Stadium.
