Darren Bent has been left raving over Everton starlet Anthony Gordon after his rise into the senior side this season.
The former Tottenham and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, claims that the teenage winger has outshone the likes of big-money signing Alex Iwobi at Goodison Park.
The 19-year-old has been a regular for Ancelotti since the Premier League return, with four starts under his belt.
Bent believes fans would rather see a young talent like Gordon given the chance over £35million 2019 signing Alex Iwobi after the Nigerian’s disappointing form.
Bent told Football Insider: “When you think about Everton over the years, they’ve always had quite a number of talented youngsters that have come through – you’ve got Rooney, you can go back to James Vaughn when he first burst onto the scene.
“Even before that, people like Danny Cadamarteri, Francis Jeffers – Ross Barkley in more recent times so they’ve always had talented youngsters coming through, which is very, very good.
“They’ve signed the likes of Iwobi who’s done next to nothing. When you can bring through one of your own talented youngsters, the fans will absolutely love that.”
Gordon has made eight Premier League appearances this season and has a total of 10 first-team games under his belt at Goodison Park.
Iwobi meanwhile has played 28 times for the Toffees since his move from Arsenal and has contributed just two goals and an assist so far.
