‘The only question is the salary’ – Fulham could agree £5m Raheem Sterling deal
Fulham could agree a £5million deal to sign Chelsea outcast Raheem Sterling on loan this summer.
Chelsea are looking to move the 30-year-old on over the coming weeks after he’s fallen further down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following the arrivals of Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens.
The winger spent the latest campaign on loan at Arsenal after being frozen out by Enzo Maresca following the Blues manager’s arrival last summer.
Arsenal decided against signing Sterling on a permanent basis after he failed to provide much of an impact during his time at the Emirates Stadium.
The Telegraph reported on 25 July Fulham have now put Sterling on their list of summer targets, but they will wait until later in the transfer window before making a move to secure his signature.
Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider the Cottagers could look to agree a “creative” deal where they pay a £5million loan fee and half of his wages.
Sterling, who is under contract until June 2027, is believed to be on more than £300,000 a week after making the move to Stamford Bridge in a £50million deal from Manchester City in 2022.
Raheem Sterling isn’t attractive signing after Chelsea issue
Borson insisted Sterling isn’t an attractive signing after his form has dipped over the past couple of seasons.
He told Football Insider: “The reality is Raheem Sterling is a free transfer-fee wise.
“The only question is how much of the salary is being paid by the new club.
“He’s on something like £350,00 a week apparently, and I think he’s still got two years left and he’s 31 in December.
“He’s not played well for two years broadly.
“He’s not a very attractive signing for somebody, aside from the fact that he has a history in the game and, prior to leaving City, he was considered a top player.
“I have heard Fulham are interested, but Fulham are going to be interested on the basis that we get close to the end of the window and they can take him on some kind of creative deal where maybe they pay a £5million loan fee and half his wages or something.
“It will be something of that order.”
Chelsea offer two stars in sensational Morgan Rogers swap deal
In terms of a potential incoming at Stamford Bridge, Football Insider revealed on 28 July Chelsea have made an offer for Morgan Rogers that includes two stars in a cash-plus-players exchange bid.
The Blues are now ramping up their bid to sign the Aston Villa playmaker, who is their top target for the remainder of the summer transfer window.
Villa are resisting interest in Rogers from Chelsea as well as several other Premier League rivals and have made it clear the 23-year-old is not for sale.
However, Maresca’s side are believed to have offered Nicolas Jackson and Tosin Adarabioyo as well as a cash sum to Villa in part-exchange for the England international.
