Theo Walcott leads tributes with heartfelt message as ex-Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey retires
Former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has seen messages flood in after announcing his retirement from football.
Ramsey played for seven clubs across 20 years, including Arsenal and Rangers, whilst earning 86 caps for Wales.
The midfielder had been without a club since leaving Mexican side UNAM in October 2025 after just three months.
Coming through the ranks of Cardiff City, Ramsey had three spells at the Bluebirds throughout his career, where in 2008 he earned a move to Premier League club Arsenal.
Ramsey won three FA Cups at Arsenal in 11 years in north London, with injuries consistently hampering his time at the club.

Retiring at the age of 35, Ramsey said it was “not an easy decision” to step away from his playing career.

What is the next step for Aaron Ramsey?
Ramsey had a period in interim charge of Cardiff City last season, and he is expected to pursue a career in coaching.
The Welshman oversaw Cardiff’s final three games of the 2024-25 Championship season, following the sacking of Omer Riza
Cardiff failed to avoid relegation to League One under Ramsey’s management, with the Bluebirds drawing two and losing one of his three games in charge.
Most notably, Ramsey played under Arsene Wenger at Arsenal during his career, and may have learnt a lot from the Frenchman.
Former Arsenal teammate Jack Wiltshire went into management at Luton Town this season, which Football Insider revealed in October, and Ramsey could follow in his footsteps.
Ramsey can now focus on obtaining his first job in management, with the end of the season approaching in just a few weeks time.
