There’s ‘no way back’ at Rangers for loan star Jones despite dazzling Sunderland form – pundit

Frank McAvennie has claimed there is “no way back” for Jordan Jones at Rangers despite his impressive form for Sunderland.

The former Celtic and West Ham striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 26-year-old looks happy at the Stadium of Light and suggested he will instead extend his stay in England.

Jones joined Sunderland on loan in January after he was frozen out of Steven Gerrard’s side following a lockdown breach in November.

He has made nine appearances in League One for the Black Cats, and scored a sublime goal in Tuesday night’s 2-0 win over Portsmouth.

Football Insider understands the Gers have set a price tag of £600,000 on the winger ahead of the summer transfer window.

When asked whether there was a way back for Jones at Ibrox in light of his recent form, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I think he will want away in the summer.

“He looks like he is enjoying it down in England, away from all of the hustle and bustle of Glasgow.

“I am not sure Steven Gerrard will want him even though he gave the other boys a second chance. He got rid of Jones and Edmondson at the first opportunity which says to me he doesn’t want them.

“I don’t think there is any way back at Ibrox for Jones. He is a real talent the boy but he has let himself down a couple of times. But, I will never say someone doesn’t deserve a second chance because I had more than that.

“It looks like he is enjoying it at Sunderland though, and they are a massive club.”
