‘There’s only one club’ England star could join in January – ‘it’s Man United’
Conor Gallagher has been linked with a move back to the Premier League ever since he joined Atletico Madrid.
The 25-year-old completed the switch to the Spanish side back in the summer of 2024, leaving boyhood club Chelsea.
Manchester United were offered the chance to sign Gallagher on deadline day of the most recent transfer window but an agreement could not be reached.
So far this season, the midfielder has started just two league games for Atletico, making 10 appearances from the bench.

Conor Gallagher unlikely to leave Atletico Madrid
Last month, Football Insider revealed that Man United are still keeping tabs on Gallagher ahead of the January transfer window.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Old Trafford would be the Englishman’s preferred destination if he did decide to leave Atletico.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Gallagher would suit Ruben Amorim’s style.
However, Wyness added that he expects the former Chelsea man to stay put in January and continue on with Diego Simeone’s side in their La Liga title fight.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Conor’s been well received at Atletico. They like him over there, and they don’t want to let him go.
“I mean, there were a lot of rumours about him moving back in the summer, but he hasn’t gone. Again, rumours are now surfacing about him coming in January. I don’t really see it.
“Atletico are only fourth in the league at the moment. They want to push on. They see him as a very useful addition and certainly Simeone likes him, so I don’t expect him to move.
“If he were to go, Man United certainly would be the one. He may suit Ameren’s style, but I wouldn’t expect him to move. I think Atletico will keep him at least for another season.”
Man United could complete Joshua Zirkzee U-turn
Meanwhile, Man United could put their faith in Joshua Zirkzee to cover for Benjamin Sesko while he is out of the team.

That is according to former Man United chief scout Mick Brown, who claims that the striker could now be set for an increased role in the side.
Zirkzee is frustrated at Man United and is expected to push to leave the club in the mid-season window amid growing interest from a number of top sides.
However, after Sesko was forced off with a knee injury against Tottenham, the Dutchman may get a run of games for the Red Devils.
