These amazing trends suggest that the Toffees are going to beat West Ham. Can the numbers be true?

It’s been hard work picking a correct West Ham result this season but there are some eye-catching stats about the away win when these two meet on Saturday afternoon, says Joe Dyer…

West Ham v Everton
Saturday, 15:00
West Ham
Hammers fans will be tired of reading about their schizophrenic team’s superb away record and rubbish home form – but tough! The Hammers have 13 points from their travels and just seven from five games at the Boelyn Ground. They had one of the easier chances to improve that away record last week but fluffed their lines at promoted Watford, going down to a 2-0 defeat.
Manager Slaven Bilic has most of his first team available although defender Winston Reid and striker Diafra Sakho are doubts. James Collins is suspended after being sent off last weekend.
Everton
After a short run of indifferent results, Everton delighted the Goodison Park faithful with a 6-2 tonking of Sunderland last Sunday. That breath-taking match saw Arouna Koné score a hat-trick with able attacking support from Gerard Deulofeu and Romelu Lukaku, both of whom scored.
That win took Everton up to ninth in the table, one point off neighbours Liverpool. It’s been a stuttering opening to the season with each win followed by dropped points, though the Toffees have now played every single team from last season’s top eight. Of those seven games, three were lost, two drawn and two won.
Roberto Martinez must do without Phil Jagielka for this trip but could welcome Leighton Baines back for his first start of the season.
Match Odds
Everton present one of the tougher tests in the Premier League and that, combined with West Ham’s very modest home record, means the market is struggling to pick a strong favourite. The Hammers are 2.62 to win, Everton 2.90. The draw is 3.60.
While the Match Odds paint a muddy picture the stats provide some welcome clarity – and the point to an away win. Opta tell us that Everton have won 10 and lost none of the last 14 Premier League matches against the Hammers (D4).
Given Everton’s strong showing last time out, that 2.90 looks pretty tempting.
A less risky option for those looking to back the away side it in the Draw No Bet market. You’ll have you stake returned if the game finishes in a stalemate.
Over/Under 2.5 Goals
Given Everton scored six last time out, the market is taking no chances here making Unders 1.82 to back. It’s hard to argue with that price really. Both teams are blessed with goalscoring talent and neither defence has impressed – both teams last kept a clean sheet in September.
To Score
I’m not a big fan of goalscorer markets but it seems that we can expect the nets to bulge a few times here, and if the goals are flying in it might pay to back Romelu Lukaku to be responsible for one of them. The Belgian has shown good form so far this season with six Premier League goals and typically enjoys his matches against the Irons. Lukaku has scored in all six of his appearances for Everton against West Ham (in all competitions), netting in four PL games and two FA Cup fixtures. You should be able to back the Everton forward to score at around 3.00.
