‘They caved in on Bryan Mbeumo’ – Man United chiefs ‘panicked’ by Liverpool
Manchester United chiefs are feeling the pressure after they “caved in” on signing Bryan Mbeumo this summer.
Ruben Amorim’s side spent weeks in negotiations with Brentford as they looked to secure a deal for the Cameroon international.
Mbeumo has now signed for Man United after they agreed to pay the Bees an initial £65million, with up to £6million in add-ons included in the deal.
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider United are at risk of getting bounced into some deals they might not ordinarily want to do.
Mbeumo has become United’s second big-money signing of the summer after Matheus Cunha completed his £62.5million move from Wolves last month.
The 25-year-old registered 20 goals and nine assists in 42 appearances last season, taking his overall tally with Brentford to 70 strikes and 51 assists in 242 outings.

Man United could hit panic button as rivals spend big
Borson revealed United could start to panic about what’s going to happen next season if rival Premier League clubs are spending big.
He told Football Insider: “I think the other thing that United may end up doing is getting bounced into some deals that they might not ordinarily want to do.
“It wasn’t a surprise, for example, that on the back of Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal all spending big, they caved in on Mbuemo.
“The reality is there are human beings running the clubs and they feel the pressure.
“It’s all very well holding your position on something, but if everybody around you is jumping up and down and panicking, then the pressure to pay the extra £5million becomes too much, and I think that’s what happened.
“I think it was clear that was going to happen and it’s what happened.
“So, I think there’s some risk that United could end up doing a deal that they might not want to do.
“If all the clubs around them are spending properly and big, them starting to panic about what’s going to happen next season is a real risk.”

Man United turn attention to striker who nearly joined Arsenal
In terms of another potential incoming at Old Trafford, Football Insider revealed on 22 July United are now interested in signing Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, who had been a key target for Arsenal.
Viktor Gyokeres’ arrival at the Emirates Stadium has seen their interest in Sesko cool and potentially open the door for United to swoop despite rival interest from Newcastle United.
The Slovenia international reportedly has a release clause in his contract, but it would take an offer of more than £70million to trigger it this summer.
