‘They have a bit of fairy dust now’ – Brentford have agreed game-changing deal

Brentford have been praised for agreeing a brand new partnership which will benefit their bank balance.

It has been a difficult summer for the Bees, who saw long-term manager Thomas Frank make the switch to Tottenham.

The West London side promoted set-piece coach Keith Andrews to replace Frank, in what is his first senior management role.

There are also new minority investors at Brentford, as UK-based South African businessman Gary Lubner and English filmmaker Matthew Vaughn bought a minority stake in the club’s parent company.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted that Lubner and Vaughn are the right partners for Bees owner Matthew Benham.

‘Brentford’s valuation will now soar’

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that the new investment brings a bit of fairy dust to Brentford.

The deal is believed to have boosted the valuation of the club up to around £400million.

Wyness added that the new partnership will help Brentford punch above their weight in terms of marketing.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Look, I think it’s a good move. I think they’re the right type of partners that Benham should have brought in.

“Matthew Vaughn is a player in the Hollywood stakes and knows the celebrity market very, very well. I think Brentford did need a bit of fairy dust in terms of marketing. I think they’ve got a great story to tell about the way that they’ve developed into a club.

“They’ve got the new stadium. They’re the small guy. They’re David and Goliath. There is a lovely story there to tell, and I think that they need that little bit of fairy dust in the marketing, and they need to punch above their weight in that area.

“I think they can do and Matthew Vaughn can help them come together. I think they’re a very good partnership. It’s a good fit. Financially, it gives Brentford a very good valuation going forward. It will help attract some more attention and I’m sure they’ve got some clever ideas.

“While Matthew Benham has been superb in the football side and the data side, maybe there hasn’t been that little x-factor in the marketing of Brentford that they might have now.

“It’s exciting and it’s a great fit. I wish them nothing but the best, but I would have concerns on the pitch this coming season. I do think the new manager and the loss of some of these players is going to be very hard to make up for.”

Brentford to agree new commercial deals

Meanwhile, Brentford are well placed to agree new commercial deals following the latest investment at the Gtech Community Stadium, sources have told Football Insider.

It is understood the investment will help strengthen the Bees’ transfer budget this summer following multiple exits.

Vaughn, who founded MARV Studios, is best known for producing films such as the Kingsman franchise, Kick-Ass and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

Meanwhile, Lubner is the founder of This Day Foundation and the former chief executive of vehicle glass repair firm Belron.
