'They want to be the next Liverpool' - Exclusive: Mills reacts to big Newcastle update

Danny Mills has claimed Steve Bruce is likely to be fired by Newcastle United and replaced by a bigger name when the takeover is complete.

The former Leeds and Manchester City full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, fears the prospective new owners will appoint a “razzmatazz manager” despite the 59-year-old’s “fantastic” season.

As revealed by Football Insider, the PCP Partners, a Saudi-backed consortium led by Amanda Staveley, plan to install a “world-beater” manager if they complete a takeover at St. James Park.

The takeover is in the latter stages with the Premier League currently ratifying the relevant paperwork and carrying out the Owners’ and Directors’ Test ahead of a £300million deal.

Mills fears Bruce will fall victim to the incoming owners’ huge aspirations for the club.

“I think Steve Bruce has done a fabulous job,” he told Football Insider.

“But you have incredibly wealthy owners who will have big ideas for how they want to play. They will want to be the next Liverpool, Manchester City.

“Does Steve Bruce play that brand of football? No. But he does not have the players to play that brand of football.

“I do not think they will give Steve Bruce a load of money to buy loads of players. I think they will go for the big-name razzmatazz manager.

“It would be a shame because Bruce has done a fantastic job and he is a very good manager. He stabilised the club and was not particularly popular when appointed.

“I think he will have to be worried on the basis that we have seen it so many times before.”

Football Insider understands the prospective new owners are still to make contact with Steve Bruce over his position at the club.

Bruce has won 12 of his 35 matches in charge of the Magpies who currently sit 13th and eight points clear of the relegation zone.
