'I am sure...' - Exclusive: Kevin Phillips tips Leeds move to sign PL ace after price drops
Kevin Phillips has tipped Leeds United to make a second move for Che Adams this summer despite sporting director Victor Orta casting doubt over a potential transfer.
The former Sunderland and West Brom striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, was adamant Marcelo Bielsa could get the best out of Adams who has struggled for game time at St. Mary’s since his £15million move.
Football Insider revealed last month that the English striker could be available for as little as £10million as the Saints look to offset their significant financial losses of the last 18 months.
Victor Orta, revealed that the club were incredibly close to sealing a deal for Adams in the winter before Ralph Hasenhuttl changed his mind about the player’s “availability”.
However, Phillips insisted club’s targets do not drastically change in six months but recognised that the coronavirus pandemic had reduced budgets.
“It depends what budget they are working with,” he told Football Insider.

“From my experience at clubs, if you have gone for somebody in January and it has not worked out you do not all of a sudden ditch them or bin them to one side.
“You keep it bubbling until the summer and look at it again. I am sure it is a player they will look at again.
“It has not worked out at Southampton for Che. A change and a chance somewhere else could get the best out of him.
“I watched him a fair bit at Birmingham and I watched him develop his all-round game.
“He has taken a backwards step at Southampton but I could still see Leeds going in because Bielsa has shown that he gets the best out of his players. There is no reason he could not do that with Che Adams.”
