Steven Gerrard deserves huge credit for Rangers already selling a remarkable 32,000 season tickets for next season, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds and Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, suggested that silverware is on the horizon at Ibrox and the fans can sense it.

The Gers confirmed on their website that 32,000 fans had chosen to renew their season tickets despite the financial climate and uncertainty as too when supporters will be allowed to return to stadiums.

Further to that, the clubs membership scheme grew to 16,000 – the largest in Scotland – as the waiting list for a season ticket at Ibrox grows.

Whelan claimed excitement was well and truly back for the Teddy Bears ahead of the 2020/21 season.

“It shows what a great job the club and Steven Gerrard has done,” he told Football Insider.

“They have turned the club around and got that love back. I am sure it never left but it has been about getting the excitement back.

“They have had a taste of it this season. They are probably excited to see what will happen this season and see if they can win a trophy. I believe they are in great shape to do just that, I really do.

“They have the manager and backroom staff to do that and they have the support as well. It is commendable to everyone involved at the club.”

The Gers were rocked by the curtailment of the Scottish Premiership last month.

The SPFL’s decision handed Celtic their ninth consecutive title and with history at stake, the upcoming season has increased importance to the Old Firm.

In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that Ivan Toney has told friends his plans this summer.
