Thiago Alcantara: Expert issues ‘devastating’ injury claim as triple Liverpool blow confirmed
Liverpool have the strength in depth to cope with Thiago Alcantara’s “big” injury concerns, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward insisted Thiago’s most recent injury is normal and Liverpool will be “fine”.
After being named in the starting XI for the Reds’ EFL Cup final last weekend (27 February), the midfielder had to pull out after picking up a hamstring complaint in the warm-up.
He then did not make the matchday squad as Jurgen Klopp’s side progressed to the FA Cup quarter-final with a 2-0 win over Norwich City on Wednesday (2 March).
As quoted by Liverpool Echo today (4 March), Klopp revealed he will miss the game with West Ham on Sunday along with Joel Matip and Roberto Firmino.
Naby Keita and Curtis Jones are doubts for the visit of the Hammers to Anfield.
“Thiago does have a big injury record, sometimes that can happen with players,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“It can happen in warm-ups, in freezing cold conditions your body can pick up these little injuries. It’s devastating for a final but it does happen.
“But if you look at the players they’ve got at their disposal in midfield, the likes of Keita, Henderson, Fabinho, Elliott, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain. They’ve got enough cover for another injury blow, so I’m sure they will be fine.”

Thiago has consistently struggled to nail down a regular starting spot in the Liverpool starting XI since his move from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2020.
The Spain international has played 50 times for the Merseyside giants, including 39 times in the Premier League.
