This 28-year-old is better than Pogba: Three things we learned about Man United from win v Leicester

By Amir Mir

Football Insider analyses the three talking points after Manchester United beat Leicester 3-0 at the King Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is better than Paul Pogba

Both Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba walked through the doors of Old Trafford in the summer, both with big price tags on their shoulders and big expectations from supporters. After a tough start to life in the Premier League for the duo, they have settled in and are beginning to show their true class. But, at this moment in time, 28-year-old Mkhitaryan is proving to be better than his fellow summer recruit and more of an attacking influence than the Frenchman. The way Mkhitaryan dictated play against the Foxes showed the class act he is, not forgetting the composer to open the scoring just before half-time. Pogba can be a little reckless in the middle of the park, but Armenian international Mkhitaryan glides in the midfield with ease and links up brilliantly with his attackers as proven during the win for United.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been the best transfer addition this season

Jose Mourinho spent a lot of money during the summer transfer window, most notably on midfielder Paul Pogba. However, his decision to bring striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a free transfer from PSG was a stroke a genius. The former Sweden international struck his 20th goal of the campaign against Leicester on Sunday afternoon and Ibrahimovic is proving why he is the best buy this season. He doubled his side’s advantage against the Premier League champions by finding himself space in the penalty area and calmly slotting the ball home. The outspoken Swede does not just deliver on the field play, but his presence and mindset is very helpful to a team that is vying to finish in the top four and possibly clinch an unlikely Premier League crown.

Jose Mourinho will guide United into the top four

Following their impressive win against Leicester, United are now two points adrift of fourth-placed Arsenal. The chance to finish top of the pack is highly unlikely but their manager Jose Mourinho will guide them into the top four. United have a team that is growing in confidence, playing good football, scoring goals and beginning to look stronger at the back. They showed this against the Foxes and will be a huge threat to their rivals during the final months of the season. The Europa League is set to kick in for United this month and how they deal with that competition could end up playing a huge part as to where they finish. However, with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Ibrahimovic, Juan Mata, Anthony Martial, Pogba, Mkhitaryan and Michael Carrick, Mourinho has enough cover to cope with the heavy scheduling and high quality needed to finish in a Champions League place.
