‘This caught my attention’ – Man United are taking ‘risk’ after deal agreed

Man United’s latest off-field deal could be a risky move by the club in a bid to improve their financial situation.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, after Man United agreed a deal for a new TV series.

Man United had been in talks with Amazon over an access-all-areas documentary, but this deal will see a series created similar to Netflix’s The Crown.

It is a move to improve finances, with Man United’s 2024-25 accounts showing the club’s situation is worsening due to little on-field success.

Expert shares verdict on Man United TV series

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Man United are taking a “risk” with the TV series.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness though states the current squad should not be impacted.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Well, this is interesting. This one did catch my attention, and I’ve been involved in negotiations before around things like the Netflix documentaries, etc.

But this is a slightly different take. You’ve got to bear in mind that when you do things like Sunderland Till I Die, which is probably one of the favourites, a lot of access is demanded by the club, and it can be quite intrusive, and you never quite know what’s going to happen in that season and what stories could come out of it.

“So there’s a bit of a risk there. The way that they’re talking about this one is doing more of a historical story about United. So there isn’t an impact on the present day squad. I think they’re going to go things like the Munich air crash and all those sorts of things.”

Man United make Senne Lammens decision

Man United are not looking to sign a new goalkeeper in the near future, with the club set to focus on strengthening other areas of the squad in the summer window.

Senne Lammens has cemented his position as the number one at Old Trafford this season, despite doubts over the 23-year-old’s arrival.

Lammens has impressed interim manager Michael Carrick, who could take on the role on a permanent basis, meaning there is no urgency to replace the Belgian.
