This is the ‘deciding factor’ in Sandro Tonali making Man United move
Champions League football will decide whether Sandro Tonali joins Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, amid Tonali being linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Newcastle will struggle to keep Tonali at the club, with Eddie Howe’s side facing an uphill battle if they want to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Meanwhile, Man United are currently inside the Premier League top four, and are showing positive form under interim boss Michael Carrick.
Sandro Tonali ‘would be a loss for Newcastle’
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – states that Newcastle are in “greater jeopardy” than Man United to make the Champions League next season.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness believes it will be the “deciding factor” in whether Tonali joins Man United.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think it would be a loss for Newcastle. Look, they’ve been through a lot with him. They’ve supported him fully when he had some issues off the pitch. And I think he respects that.
“But still, players have to go on, and they make decisions as they see fit. And again, this is one of those things going right back to Michael Carrick.
“If United make the Champions League, then I think that would be the deciding factor for Tonali going to United. And I think Newcastle are going to be in much greater jeopardy of making that Champions League next year.
“So I think Tonali does want that Champions League football. I think that could be the deciding factor.”

Nick Woltemade twist emerges at Newcastle
Howe could be dealt another blow in the summer, after it was reported that Nick Woltemade may look to return to Germany.
Woltemade only joined Newcastle from Stuttgart last August, but the 24-year-old could make a swift return to the Bundesliga club.
Bayern Munich could also be a possible destination for the German striker, who has scored seven Premier League goals this season.
