Leeds players should expect extended and more lucrative contracts if Garry Monk signs his own new deal at the club, according to a reliable journalist.

Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay reported on his personal Twitter account that “some players’ deals are due to be improved.”

Hay was responding to two Leeds fans who were asking about the current contract situations of striker Chris Wood and midfield duo Liam Bridcutt and Eunan O’Kane.

The supporter then queried whether contract renewals will be handed out once Monk is announced as manager as Hay issued this response.

“Some players’ deal are due to be extended/improved,” said Hay.

New Zealand international Wood has a contract at Elland Road that runs until 2019, while both Briductt’s and O’Kane’s deals expire in 2018.

All three played a big part in Leeds narrowly missing out on a playoff place in the Championship by five points.

Striker Wood was perhaps the most important played in the Leeds side as he finished off the campaign as the top scorer in the second division.

Over the course of the season, he scored 27 goals from his 44 league matches, added with his three strikes in the EFL Cup.

Monk’s contract at Elland Road is due to expire at the end of June after he signed a one-year rolling deal when he joined the club last summer.

Supporters will be hoping the hugely popular manager will extend his deal after turning the Yorkshire club from league strugglers to promotion hopefuls.

In other Leeds news, fans air their anger after a report suggests that Harry Kewell will be named Crawley manager.
