‘This is wild’ – Rangers fans fume over ‘rotten’ Celtic decision as latest footage analysed

Rangers fans are fuming over the “rotten” decision not to award a penalty in their loss to Celtic on Saturday (30 December).

Fresh footage showed that Hoops ace Alistair Johnston seemingly intentionally put the ball out of play with his hand as Abdallah Sima was chasing the ball.

Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart went on to take a goal kick straight after the incident, but Gers players were instantly outraged that on-field referee Nick Walsh did not give a spot-kick in the first half of their 2-1 defeat at Parkhead.

A VAR review also concluded that a penalty should not have been awarded as Willie Collum, who headed the check, deemed Johnston’s hand to be in a natural position.

Critics have pointed out that Sima looked offside in the build-up, but fans feel that the officials’ decision was a huge injustice to their club.

Rangers are set to demand the audio between the VAR officials and the referee be released in the wake of the controversy, but nethertheless the loss became Philippe Clement’s first in charge of the club.

Celtic have now bested their rivals in the Old Firm twice this season, but Rangers still have the chance to go just two points below them if they win their two games in hand.

Many Gers fans feel like their club has been robbed of a penalty and have taken to social media to fume over the “blatant cheating” from the officials.
