This may be real reason behind Alli issues at Tottenham amid transfer reveal – ex-manager
Alex McLeish has suggested Dele Alli may have his heart set on quitting Tottenham ahead of the summer.
The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted he thought Spurs should keep hold of the playmaker but admitted the England star may not want to stay.
As revealed by Football Insider, Tottenham are open to offers for the 25-year-old this summer despite featuring regularly under Ryan Mason.
It is said the attacking midfielder can be difficult to manage behind the scenes and Spurs are keen to offload him permanently.
Alli still has three years left on the contract he signed at Tottenham back in 2018.
McLeish suggested the player’s attitude suggested he could be angling for a summer switch.
“You don’t know what goes on behind closed doors,” McLeish told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.
“It’s nobody else’s business but if there are rumours that he’s not happy behind the scenes, then it doesn’t give me a lot of confidence that he’s going to stay.
“Maybe the player’s had enough, his agent will be working the oracle to get him a new club.
“Maybe the kid just wants a new challenge. Possibly, these last couple of seasons have just secured that feeling in his head.
“Do I think Spurs should get rid of him? No. I think he’s a talent, a brilliant talent. You just wonder that brilliant talent has gone and can he get it back?”
Alli started seven games in 15 Premier League appearances this season.
All but two of those starts came in Spurs’ final games of the season under interim boss Mason.
